The incident occurred on June 5, 2025, when Officer Krystal Rivera, 36, and her partner, Officer Carlos Baker, attempted to stop a suspect in the 8200 block of South Drexel Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood.
The suspect, later identified as Adrian Rucker, fled into an apartment building, prompting both officers to pursue him inside. Body camera footage shows the officers chasing the suspect up a staircase and into an apartment unit.
During the encounter, another individual inside the apartment was seen pointing what appeared to be a firearm toward the doorway. As Officer Baker retreated from the unit, he discharged his weapon.
The shot struck Officer Rivera in the back.
