Shots fired outside Wild Wing Cafe in Opelika, Alabama lead to police pursuit, firearm recovery, and multiple arrests as investigation continues.
Opelika, Alabama — An early morning shooting investigation is underway after shots were fired outside Wild Wing Cafe on Capps Way, prompting a police pursuit, multiple arrests, and an ongoing investigation by authorities.
Shots Fired Outside Wild Wing Cafe
According to the Opelika Police Department, dispatch received multiple emergency calls at approximately 1:41 a.m. on Friday, April 17, reporting a large fight and gunfire outside Wild Wing Cafe located at 3040 Capps Way.
When officers arrived, they observed a vehicle fleeing the scene at high speed and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop, leading to a brief police pursuit.
Police Pursuit Ends on Interstate 85
Officers eventually stopped the vehicle on Interstate 85 near mile marker 61, where five individuals were detained for questioning.
At the same time, an individual arrived at East Alabama Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified and interviewed but declined to press charges.
Evidence Recovered During Investigation
During the scene examination, officers located a red Dodge Charger in the Wild Wing Cafe parking lot that had multiple bullet holes. Investigators confirmed the vehicle was registered to the victim treated at the hospital.
Police also recovered a firearm along the pursuit route near mile marker 60, which they believe was discarded from the suspect vehicle during the chase.
Arrests Made in the Case
Following the investigation, three of the five individuals detained were charged:
- Devante Goodman, 28, Auburn — Felony Attempting to Elude
- Ashton Williams, 19, Auburn — Minor Consumption of Alcohol
- Stephen Harris, 26, Auburn — Outstanding warrant (Lee County Sheriff’s Office)
Investigation Ongoing
The Opelika Police Department confirmed that the case remains under active investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Detective Division or submit anonymous tips through official channels.
